Transistions

Updated: Jul 10

As July begins to fade, summer does too. My mind turns to the start of fall and the exciting things that come with the months ahead. I have never been one to count the days, as my grandparents taught me to make them count at an early age. Those words of advice remain relevant all these years later. I look forward to things, but not in a way that leads me not to be where my eyes are. I am sure my grandparents would have had no idea of all the distractions that we have in our world today, and just how prophetic their words would become when you have to force yourself to stay locked into the present moment, or get carried away by emails, messages, and social media. We will soon transition back into college practices and the constant preparation required to keep things organized. With that transition, we will have a few more new assistant coaches this season, and a few have left for other opportunities. This has been a recurring theme over the last few years, as coaches, like players, have options to move up the coaching ladder.

In many ways, coaching at the junior college level is challenging, as you have players for such a short time. When I think about it, the same holds for most coaches. Our only consistency is the teachings that define what makes our success circle and what makes them great leaders and people, both on and off the field. The faces will continue to change at high rates every year. 50-65% on the player's side alone. However, no matter the transitions, we will continue to focus on positive growth and give 100% to those in the room.

“The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.” - Alan Watts

Change is an inevitable part of life, constantly pushing us out of our comfort zones and challenging us to adapt. A renowned philosopher, Alan Watts, emphasizes embracing change rather than resisting it. By plunging into change, we open ourselves up to new experiences, opportunities, and growth. Adapting to change enables us to flow with the rhythm of life, accepting its ebbs and flows. Watts' words remind us that we can find meaning and purpose amid uncertainty and transformation by embracing change.

Here's to the 24-25 season kicking off in just a few weeks and all of the moments that have yet to happen. This season will again be different, and the sum of the parts has the makings of something special.
