Separation Season Maximizing the Holiday Time

The holiday season is typically associated with relaxation, taking time off, and enjoying the festivities. However, for some people like myself, I view this period as a time of growth. In this blog post, I'll explore how I and others use the holidays as a time to separate from the norm and find incredible enjoyment in doing so.

1. Defining Separation Season:

Separation Season is something that I thought about in my very first season of coaching college baseball. I saw players leave after four months of development in practices and come back after Christmas break either much better or much worse than when they left. This real-life test was something that coined the term "separation season." My vision became broader after this first-time event, and I realized how much it truly can affect everyone not just athletes.

2. Embracing Alternative Perspectives:

I realized quickly that Instead of perceiving the holidays as a break solely designed for relaxation, it needed to be viewed as an opportunity for personal growth and exploration.

If you really want to get to a destination, you must be willing to give up something to get something. So, that might mean passing on the dessert table, not nixing your workouts for the month, or even the idea of spending less money on things and investing more in experiences.

3. Exploring Unconventional Experiences:

Separation Season could prompt individuals to venture beyond typical holiday destinations. Exploring offbeat locations, such as lesser-known towns, rural villages, or unexplored natural landscapes, offers an escape from crowded tourist spots. The solitude and serenity found in uncommon destinations can be immensely rejuvenating and enjoyable.

4. Maximizing Personal Time:

I've learned the value of personal time, and I prioritize it during the holidays. For you, this could involve indulging in hobbies, pursuing creative passions, or simply dedicating extra time to self-reflection and personal development. By maximizing your time, you can experience the joyous feeling of being fully immersed in activities you truly love.

5. Engaging in Introspective Practices:

Self-reflection and introspection hold great significance during the holidays, with many things on the list to do. Engaging in mindfulness, meditation, and journaling helps you understand yourself better and gain clarity on your goals, aspirations, and values. These practices can lead to invaluable personal growth and provide a sense of joy during Separation Season.

6. Cultivating Meaningful Connections:

While separation may imply distancing oneself from others, it is important to note that Separation Season does not mean isolating oneself entirely. Instead, focus on cultivating meaningful connections by spending quality time with loved ones, engaging in deep conversations, or even volunteering for charitable causes. These interpersonal connections provide a sense of fulfillment and contribute to overall happiness during the holidays.

Conclusion:

The holiday season is an opportune time for individuals who might embrace the concept of Separation Season to explore alternative perspectives, maximize personal time, and experience incredible enjoyment. By viewing the holidays as an opportunity for self-discovery and growth, you, too, can create a sense of purpose and fulfillment during this special time of year.
