Before speaking engagements, podcasts with Brian Cain, close relationships with the "next" wearable device maker, Pison, and coaching the most incredible college kids in the world, I was doing anything I could to keep my dream alive. When you have an unconventional journey, you quickly realize that life responds to effort.
At that time, I was coaching a high school baseball team in the afternoons, giving lessons at a baseball facility in the evenings, working for a funeral home at night, and in the mornings, until practice, I worked for a moving company. I did all of this to help support my family and my dream of coaching baseball at the highest level.
Keep in mind, I had left the entrepreneurial field a few years prior, which included big houses, toys, salaries, and insurance. This was a humbling and transformational time in my life. Add four children and a wife, and it's downright scary. Looking back, I still found time for growth; most of it was before the sun came up again. I learned that sleeping was for those who could turn their minds off. I still had many days of not feeling like I was getting better, and many times I felt like throwing a pity party for myself, often questioning whether I was making the right decision or not with my dream chasing.
One impactful concept I learned during this time was that to reach your summit, you must be the most committed when you feel like it the least. Essentially, the worse you feel, the more committed you need to be to your processes and dreams.
That time in my life taught me so many valuable lessons. I learned how to be mentally and emotionally tough and anti-fragile. Lessons I can keep sharing with those I meet along the way.
Gratitude is the essence of the holidays; I am thankful for all I can reach, teach, and learn from. Happy Thanksgiving!
